I'm planning to replace my hdd in Acer timelinex 3830tg-2414. Will it work and do I need to buy the optional sata cable?

SDD installation is possible if there is space after HDD removal.
Notebooks do not require cables.

After 3 week of delay, seller finally refunded and say his not so sincere apology that I have been hearing since I ask him about the item not being shipped. Do not bother to buy from him again. Seem like some fraudulent promo and the item will forever be "Shipping Requested" If there is blacklist in Qoo10, I would put him up in it so that I never bother to see or buy from him ever again.
