WHAT IS "METTA”?
"Metta” in Pali means "loving kindness”.
Metta Welfare Association (Metta) was founded in 1992 by Venerable Shi Fa Zhao, Abbot of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple. He is also the President and Abbot of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum.
Registered as a society in 1994, Metta is presently endorsed by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Education (MOE). We are also members of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), Singapore Hospice Council and Singapore Disability Sports Council. In recognition of our performance in Business Excellence, we are awarded with the 3-years certification in Singapore Quality Class on 31 July 2015.
Playing a pivotal role in realising our mission are 9 welfare centres that are located islandwide. Currently serving over 1200 beneficiaries from various races and religions, these centres are segregated into the following areas:
- Metta School (a special education school for children aged 7 to 18 with mild intellectual disability and/or autism spectrum disorders)
Consisting of both Metta Café and Arts@Metta, it provides vocational training and employment opportunities for youths with special needs.
From the young to the elderly, the infirm to the terminally ill, we transcend racial and religious barriers to enhance their quality of life. A challenging task it is but our driving force comes from the satisfaction of seeing them receive proper care and lead fulfilling lives. We take pride in our ability to offer a comprehensive range of services that goes beyond the mere fulfilment of their requirements.
